The Grove Theater

The Grove Theater in Oak Ridge holds a rich history of memories for many in the East Tennessee area. Constructed during the Manhattan Project & recently rennovated, the theater is home to numerous Arts & Sciences organizations. It is currently owned and operated by High Places Community Church.

*The Grove Theater has limited technical resources and will accommodate your requests to the extent possible. In most cases it is recommended that you contact the Grove Theater’s technical staff immediately after reserving the facility and/or when your technical needs have been determined. This will allow time to identify and reconcile technical resource gaps to ensure your event is a success.

I understand that audio-visual equipment is limited at the Grove Theater, and for larger set-ups I may have to provide my own. *
If using the Grove Theater sound equipment, I agree to provide a sound technician who has been vetted by the Grove Theater audio-visual staff. *

There is no charge for the use of the Grove Theater facility. However, donations are always greatly appreciated as they help with the cost of keeping the facility open and help fund repairs and improvements to make the experience of using the facility better for all facility users.
We ask that you notify a facility representative immediately if your reservation of the Grove Theater facility has to be cancelled or rescheduled. Likewise, you will be notified immediately if the facility should be rendered unavailable for your scheduled event due to fire, accident, act of God or breakdown of building systems.
Emergency Announcements
Tennessee State law requires that one of the following emergency announcements be read to the audience prior to beginning a program in either of the two theaters.
Emergency Announcement for Theater 12 (The Historic Grove Theater)
In the unlikely event of an emergency requiring us to evacuate this facility, please make note of the available emergency exits in the front of the auditorium to the left and right of the stage as well as the doors through which you entered at the back of the auditorium. If exiting through the back of the auditorium, you can exit the building by turning immediately left or back through the lobby to the main entrance.
Emergency Announcement for Theater 3 (small movie/projection theater)
In the unlikely event of an emergency requiring us to evacuate this facility, please make note of the available emergency exit in the front of the auditorium to the left side of the stage. There is also an exit at the back of the auditorium or back through the lobby to the main entrance.
Tennessee State law requires that all exits remain clear and without obstruction at all times.
The Grove Theater facility is a non-smoking facility throughout. Smoking is only allowed outside the building. *Please clean up cigarette butts left outside the building*
You, the facility user, are responsible for the conduct and safety of the staff, volunteers and participants of your event during your time at the Grove Theater facility. High Places and Friends of the Grove Theater will not be responsible for injury to persons or damage to property owned or rented by a group or individual using the facility. You, the facility user, will be responsible for damage or loss to the facility, equipment, fixtures or furnishings owned by High Places Community Church or the Friends of the Grove Theater if the cause is related to your use of the facility.
Cooperation with Other Scheduled Events
You, the facility user, recognize that there may be other groups or individuals using other areas of the facility not specifically reserved for your event. You will be expected to be respectful of other facility users as they will be expected to be respectful of you and your event.
You, the user, are asked not to advertise any event at the Grove Theater facility until this agreement has been completed and a determination has been made that the reservation will be added to the facility’s calendar.
Food and Kitchen Use
The kitchen may only be used if it has been reserved as part of this agreement. All tools in the kitchen (utensils, pans, equipment, etc.) are available for use. You, the user, will be required to provide any disposable goods (napkins, cups, plasticware, etc.), and any food items to be consumed. *Stove tops are currently available for “warming” only. No other cooking is permitted on stovetops at this time*
Alcoholic Beverages
If alcoholic beverages are going to be served at your event, you, the user, will abide by Tennessee State and City of Oak Ridge laws and ordinances regarding alcohol possession and consumption. Minimum drinking age is 21 years and food and non-alcoholic beverages must be served if alcohol is being served.
Childcare Areas
The Nursery and The Preschool Room are only available if they have been reserved as part of this agreement. Both rooms are only to be used for childcare and cannot be rearranged, altered or used for purposes other than childcare unless you have received special permission from a facility representative.
You, the user, are responsible for leaving the facility as clean as you found it. This includes: •Picking up all trash inside the facility and on the porches outside •Emptying trash cans into the dumpster on the west side of the building directly outside the rear exit of Theater 3 (small movie/projection theater) •Spot vacuuming as needed •Washing any tools or equipment used in the kitchen •Checking bathrooms and cleaning as necessary •Makeup, Hairspray or any other aerosol applications (glitter, etc.), and Straight pins or safety pins are Prohibited in carpeted areas
If you or your organization carries liability insurance, we would be grateful if you would add The Grove Theater facility and High Places Community Church to that policy as additionally insured for the duration of your event and submit a Certificate of Insurance form along with this User Agreement.
Users shall indemnify, defend and hold harmless High Places’/Friends of the Grove’s staff, members and volunteers for any claim for injury, death, property damage or any other claim actionable in a court of law brought by a facility user, user’s guests or third parties resulting from the user’s use of the facility. All terms, promises and definitions of liability agreed upon and referenced in this agreement, shall be construed under Tennessee Law.
